"Accompanying the lettering of ‘daily sun’ is the phrase ‘money, power, glory’, with the
word ‘glory’ morphing into a new tabloid logo spelling ‘glory hole’, therefore establishing a
connection between sun/glory and the hole metaphor. The term ‘glory hole’ is a reference to anonymous queer sex culture: in this symbol another attribute of the hole comes to light: the hole as a passageway of transformation and exchange of information, which travels from one individual to another, without the knowledge where the information is coming from. The glory hole as one node of connection out of a network, linking two individuals, yet concealing their identity from one another serves as a metaphor for the establishment of underground culture, especially queer culture. A code of conduct around the hole is understood by all participants, with non-verbal means of communication. It is this subtle or brute space of connection making that I seek to imitate with my works. I want to draw people into the feeling of entering those spaces, without scandalizing them. I would like to acknowledge voyeurism and exhibitionism as notions of tenderness and connection-seeking human attributes."
